Jamie Bell: Tintin. This is the main character of the movie. The original actor was Thomas Sangster. However, he dropped out when filming was delayed in 2008. Bell was suggested by Jackson after he appeared in the director’s “King Kong” remake.
Andy Serkis: Captain Haddock. Steven Spielberg had suggested Serkis. He had roles in “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” movies. He also was in the 2005 “King Kong” remake. Both of the roles required motion capture. Serkis joked that he had wanted to play Snowy, who is Tintin’s dog.
Serkis also read the original Tintin comics to prepare for the role. He noted that they were somewhat surreal. He also did research about seamen. In the movie, he also used a Scottish accent. The reason is that he felt like the character had a Celtic feel to him.
Daniel Crag: Ivan VanovitchSakharine/Red Rackham. Sakharine is the descendant of Red Rackham. He’s the pirate who had attacked the Unicorn ship that was captained by Haddock. Spielberg described the character of Sakharine as a villain. He was cruel when he was required to him, but he also was somewhat elegant.
Jackson explained that Spielberg thought the character should be the main antagonist instead of a minor character. He wanted an “interesting actor” to ply the character. Spielberg had worked with Crag before in the movie “Munich.” Craig joked that he followed an English tradition of playing the villain.
Nick Frost/Simon Pegg: Thomson/Thompson. The detectives are nearly identical. The duo was invited to have a comedy team that would not only look similar but also acts the same. Spielberg invited Pegg to the movie set and offered him the job after he finished another movie. Meanwhile, Pegg had also started with Serkis in another movie during 2010.
Daniel Mays: Allan: This is Captain Haddock’s first mate
Mackenzie Crook: Tom. He’s a thug in the movie
Gad Elmaleh: Omar ben Salaad. HE’s an Arab potentate. He used an accent that he said he hadn’t used much since childhood.
Joe Starr: Barnaby Dawes: He’s an international police agent who tries to tell Tintin he shouldn’t buy the Unicorn. He is shut near Tintin’s doorstep by thugs of Sakharine.
EnnReitel: Nestor. This is Captain Haddock’s butler. He’s also Mr. Crabtree, who’s a vendor who sells the Unicorn ship to Tintin
Tom Curran: Lieutenant Delcourt. He’s a friend of Tintin
Toby Jones: Aristides Silk. He is a pickpocket
